Transition Whatcom

Posted on behalf of Dave Ewoldt. Diane's farm is just NE of Bellingham.

Diane Harrington, owner of Pacific Alpine Gardens and Farm and highly
experienced botanist, horticulturist, farmer, naturalist, and wildcrafter, is seeking a
partner or partners to help her preserve an amazing and unique ecological
treasure and maximize its potential as a 20 acre permaculture sanctuary
(including forested area with pond) and possible learning center. She has been
intimate with the property for 47 years, and is interested in working with others
who truly understand how nature works--or are willing to learn--and will value her
knowledge of it to guide the property's evolution by working with it, not at odds with
it.  Possible rustic lodging available. For more information, contact Dave Ewoldt

Wow!!! sounds soooo goodddd...if i was 20 years younger and not married i'd jump on it!!!!!! what an opportunity for the right person!!!!!

What is she looking for, exactly? Someone with money to invest, or someone for labor exchange and/or some sort of farming cooperative-ship? More details on her vision would be great.

Krista,

This is an excellent question for Dave Ewoldt who is setting this up, so I'd recommend having a conversation with him.  My understanding is that the need is primarily for finding someone trustable with a reasonable work ethic who already understands basic organic farming techniques. I don't think they're primarily looking for someone with money to invest, though I don't really know what the financial situation is. Diane is currently having health issues, and so Dave is trying to help out from long distance. He is looking for someone he can can trust within the Bellingham Permaculture, Transition Whatcom, Sustainable Bellingham community, who if they're not interested in this opportunity themselves, would be willing to help screen applicants, check up on things at the farm occasionally, and keep him abreast of what's going on so he can facilitate/mediate issues that may arise.

I wrote to Dave but never heard back (it has been a couple of weeks now.)  Please pass along my interest for a friend of mine who is looking to move to Whatcom County.  Thanks!
