Transition Whatcom

This is a great article that summarizes some of the innovative thinking that is re-inventing transportation models in dense urban cities.  The single passenger car gets the boot as dedicated mass transit, bike and pedestrian lanes help lower pollution, carbon output and decrease mortality and diabetes rates. Innovation has been occurring in Latin America, Europe and Asia for decades while the US has spent those same decades worshiping the single passenger car while stuck in an endless traffic jam. But several large US cities are starting to notice these transportation innovations and seeing they might also work in our large cities.
