"Walking Whatcom Waters" Event at The River Farm

Regenerate Whatcom, in conjunction with others in our community, is planning a series of events called Walking Whatcom Waters. 

These events are envisioned to be feet-on-the-ground "design immersions" that will assist us in our work of regenerating our bioregion. 

Our time at The River Farm will include walking the land and water with steward and artist Bruce Myers, with comments and reflections led by permaculture and water expert Brian Kerkvliet, of Inspiration Farm. 

• We'll visit the oxbow area of the forest and see how it ties to the river and seasonal wetlands, water catchment and infiltration.
• We'll see how Bruce works with water to create art.
• We'll visit a spot along the river that has a log jam, and discuss river ecology and dynamics.
• We'll have some alone time to meditate with the river. 
• We'll have a potluck to share good food and good discussion.

This series intends to address some or all of the following topics:

• Basic water dynamics education
• Indigenous perspectives on water
• Water’s role in climate change
• The Water Adjudication process currently facing county residents, tribes, and farms
• Water issues at River Farm and other locations we'll be visiting
• How River Farm specifically is thinking about and approaching water rights issues
• How water stewardship dovetails with forest management etc.
• Provide a bridge between water rights issues and broader systems thinking and interventions
• Position water education as a foundation for  abilities to navigate the broader processes of regenerating our bioregion
