We will take to the upland trail in search of spring mushrooms (think morels) as well as early summer greens such as miner's lettuce. This hike will be a study in the beautiful contrast of the Samish flats and Chuckanut Mountains.
Bring a cloth bag and gloves for gathering; a set of small snips is also useful. Wear good walking footwear that can get wet, trekking poles for the steep slopes on Blanchard, and bring a rainjacket just in case. Leader will bring a good field guide for edible native plants and mushrooms. Field guide recommended: Edible and Medicinal Plants of the West by Gregory L. Tilford; or Pojar & MacKinnon's Plants of the Pacific Northwest. For mushrooms, any of David Aurora's guides are great!!
Potential early dinner afterwards in Edison.
You must RSVP with the leader or I will not plan on you coming. I need to know so that I can update those who sign up. If you plan to join us and want to meet at the Ferndale Park & Ride or my home, please let me know.
Contact leader at 253-334-2157 or at terrasolutions@hotmail.com.
