Hey neighbor! I am new to Transitions and I live on the Olson Road in Ferndale with my family on 5 acres. It is nice to know that there are people doing great stuff here out in Ferndale.

David,
I hope you get this before you use your new floor finishing tool, but it may not make too much difference in the end. I just wanted to mention that I got wuite a worlout using it tonight. Comparable to the effort I made with the other tool, but this was a much better tool overall in the end. I just wanted to mention that i found myself reaching and extending a nd twisting and such so that my back got quite a workout, and my bum shoulder didn't appreciate it either. If you can use the tool pretty much the way the instructions describe, you'll be fine, but I think it might be good to hae your homemede rig or something light (but still long) on hand in case you have to reach.
One cool thing about this new tool's design is that you can run it right up to a wall so that it's standing completely vertical to finish a stretch or get in a tight spot.

Hello David. Wow - we are on Aldergrove between Olsen and N. Star, we're neighbors! We just moved up here last year from BHam, so our "farm" (I use the term very loosely at this point) is very much a work in progress. I don't know that I can make it to a meeting this Tuesday, but I will join the Ferndale group and will hopefully be able to make it to the next gathering. Thanks for saying hello.

David, I just read your October post re: building up your clay soil. I have another suggestion for you - there is a place in the county, called Green Earth Technology - that sells compost and other types of garden soils. I bought sandy loam from them, which is one of the best ways to break up your clay, and for a yard it cost me about $10. That isn't the exact price, but close. It was lovely soil, had a few rocks in it, but that is no problem. Their phone number is 354-4936 if you are interested. Listed in the yellow pages under compost.

Hi David: We are well on our way in the development stage. There are many versions of wind generators out there, and some are small; not all are efficient, and as far as I have determined, none are made of recycled materials. None are made locally. Our goals are to produce small generators locally with as close to 100% recycled materials as possible. But we are not in production yet.

Hi David & Judith,
We are trying to pull a Transition Ferndale group together also. Come to the Frank-N-Stein on main St between Second & Third Avenues on Wednesdays, at 7 pm. that is when the Ferndale Farmer's group meets and we are talking about Transition Ferndale.

I may host an event in November at Fern Hollow also, I was thinking a harvest potluck & extra harvest share. Need to talk with our group in Fendale about that.

We are at 5581 Second Avenue, big old Craftsman home south of Cherry St. & dead-end street. The new Boys & Girls club is going in across the street - not sure how that will affect the ambiance on our property, but they have the same goals to educate & build community for kids.

David- thanks for your suggestion and reminder that any Intro to TW/elevator speech should include the connecting neighbors and starting smaller TIs focus. We had a good meeting yesterday afternoon with much the same conclusion, so stay tuned!
