Join us on Monday, April 5th, at the Urban Longhouse, as we transition from reviewing all the springtime plants which have emerged, to preparing for all the migrant birds to arrive.
It's daylight savings time, so we'll be spending most of the evening outside, exploring the abundant urban wildlife near the outflow of Whatcom Creek. Whether you can identify 0 plants and birds, or 100 plants and birds, we guarantee that you'll come away with at least one memorable take-home lesson that will enhance your outdoor experience this spring.
Background:
Monthly Monday Bellingham Classes take place from 4-6 pm for kids and youth, and at 7-9 pm for adults and teens, meeting a the Urban Longhouse, 115 Unity St., Suite 302, Bellingham, WA 98225 and proceeding to Maritime Heritage Park.
Our class for kids and youth is designed to teach one of our Earth Skills Topics each week. In addition, all students who complete at least one field exercise from our Wolf Journey Earth Skills Training Course in advance of each class will receive a personal review of their work, as well as tutoring to prepare them for subsequent field exercises.
Our adult class is designed to give specific training to beginners as well as provide professional guidance to advanced students. If you are already engaged in another course of study such as college biology, another naturalist training program or herbal correspondence course, you are very welcome to attend Wolf Journey classes as well, where you can receive insight and guidance into your own course work.
Everyone is welcome to attend simply for the learning contained in each class, while those who complete field exercises from the Wolf Journey Earth Skills Training Course or studies from another program will share their experiences and questions at the start of each class in order to get feedback from instructor Chris Chisholm who has also been doing field exercises at his study sites since 1995.
After this invaluable sharing and discussion from which everyone in attendance will learn, those who do field exercises at a study site between classes will also have the benefit of deciding which earth skill topics the class will focus on next time.
Join class instructor Chris Chisholm as he brings classes back to Bellingham (where it all started in 1992) during these upcoming Mondays: April 5, 2010; May 3, 2010; Sept 13, 2010; Oct 11, 2010; Nov 8, 2010; Dec 13, 2010; January 24, 2011; February 28, 2011; April 4, 2011; May 2, 2011. We are also holding a wilderness survival training camp (with youth and adult groups) on Lummi Island the week of June 28th as well as a kids day camp serving Bellingham the week of July 19th.
