***A teach-in promoted by Transition Whatcom Personal Finance Work Group***
Tired of bank bailouts, banker bonuses and credit default swaps while basic human services are de-funded? You ain’t seen nothing yet, until the next financial meltdown. With 6 banks now in control of 60% of GDP, and still gambling after all these years, we’re headed for “Financial Collapse 2.0, Where Did all the Money Go?” A teach-in for our times, how we the people can re-structure Wall Street.
Special speakers:
Dr. Simon Johnson, Professor of Economics at Sloan School of Management, MIT, former chief economist of the IMF, discusses his new book, 13 Bankers, The Wall Street Takeover and the Next Financial Meltdown. He has covered PBS, NPR, “Atlantic” Magazine, Colbert and Bill Maher shows about breaking up the “too big to fail” banks. While bank lobbies spend $1 million per day to defeat financial reform, he is our one-man lobby. See him live and ask questions.
Kristi Laguzza-Boosman, M.A., former outreach coordinator KCTS Channel 9, author of Plan B, Recalibrating an Economy in Decline, Building an Economy in Balance- will discuss relocalizing for a post-carbon era, and we will present the “Move Your Money” campaign, out of national monopolies, into local and nonprofit banks. (see Huffington Post).
Sponsored by Bellingham chapter “A New Way Forward”, (member of Americans for Financial Reform Coalition), and Whatcom Progressive Grassroots Network, Whatcom Human Rights Task Force, Connecting the Dots, Western Associated Students, Western Dems, Community Food Co-op, Jobs with Justice.
Admission free, donations gladly accepted. Questions? 671-3590
