Join us for a discussion on the issues that are critical to the production of quality grapes for eating and making wine. These include shoot positioning, summer pruning, bunch thinning, water management, and disease management.
The workshop will be outdoors, so participants should dress for the weather. No registration is required. Donations will be gladly accepted to support community workshops and farmer education.
Cloud Mountain is a nonprofit community farm and education center, created in 2011, after 33 years as a working farm. Cloud Mountain expands Whatcom County’s food system by training individuals who wish to learn the business and agricultural skills needed to succeed in today’s farming environment. Cloud Mountain continues to sell fruit and ornamental plants to the public at its nursery, located on the 20-acre farm at 6906 Goodwin Road. Proceeds support paid internships for aspiring farmers and nearly two dozen workshops offered free of charge to farmers and home gardeners. Additionally, Cloud Mountain continues to operate as a working farm and conducts field trials on a variety of fruits and vegetables in partnership with Washington State Department of Agriculture, Washington State University Extension, Community Food Co-op, and Whatcom Community Foundation. Seasonal fruits and vegetables grown at Cloud Mountain are available at the farm center’s on-site produce stand, as well as at Bellingham Farmers Market. Hours are seasonal. Through June they are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
