Event Description

Join our group to forage for native plants at the Padilla Bay Estuarine Reserve near Edison / Bow. We will do plant identification and seaweed collecting as well depending on the tides. Meet at the Ferndale Park & Ride at 12:30 pm and Fairhaven Park & Ride for Bellingham folks at 12:45 pm to get down to the reserve by 1:30 pm. Or meet us there at 1:30 pm!

Bring a cloth bag, gloves, a bucket for seaweed, plant & bird ID books if you have them, and wear shoes that can get wet and clothing appropriate for the weather. Call or email Terese to RSVP and that lets the group know to expect you, and where you will meet us.

Teresa, There is a chance there may be an east and west Fairhaven park & ride...I'm not sure.....I'll start out looking for one on the water or west side of I-5. They've changed the roads alot down their since I've known the area. I"ll also check to see if we can connect by phones if we dont see each other at 12:45. Thanks for saving space for me in the car!

I believe need a license to harvest sea weed and there is a limit as to how much you can take. (you can buy a license at Yeagers) I also heard that there are only a few locations where you can harvest seaweed. Does anyone know if Padilla Bay allows harvesting? If you do collect seaweed I recommend that you use a pair of scissors.

Seaweed collecting & estuarine stalking sounds great. I'll check my calendar soon, and also bring a bird ID book. Should I bring a bucket to carry my seaweed in? I'd like to dry some at home.
I'll need to ride with someone from the Fairhaven Park & Ride. What is the estimated return time?
