Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I have a degree in environmental policy and planning and before relocating was working with Ecology Action in Willits, CA. Ecology Action (John Jeavons) has spent the last 38 years researching how to grow the most food in the smallest areas with a focus on regrowing fertile topsoil, which is rapidly being lost.
I have been involved with the Co-Housing movement and am currently working on a business/feasibility plan for a model community center for revitalizing community. The plan also proposes a new economic model based on enrichment rather than consumption.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I've been working on these questions in various ways all of my adult life.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
In addition to what I shared above, I spent 3 months on a small island in the South Pacific exploring a proposal I had written for their government on creating an ecovillage and learning center incorporating their traditional knowledge.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
I have just been here 2 weeks and I have short-term housing in the Whatcom Falls Park neighborhood

Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?

Hi Dawn! I'll print out your Vision Statement draft of Community Supported Centers to read. I'm familiar with CSA's and your vision on first read resonates strongly with me. I'm excited you're connecting with both Renatta & Cindi & you will meet others too!

You're welcome to click the 'Join' on any of the WT groups that interest you and network that way, or just leave a comment or send a TW friend request to anyone you'd like to network with.
I'll send you an invite to at least two of our TW groups, the Community Living one and one of the Finance one...By 'joining' and clicking 'follow' you just receive emails when anyone posts a comment or discussion, which can also be read by just going to these groups when you're online. I think it would be great if you felt led to introduce yourself and post your link to your vision statement drafts to the Community Supported Centers to at least one of the groups. If I think of an event or group you might resonate with, I'll forward it on, and you can go your own pace for getting connected.

You might also want to connect in with Harmony and the other folks who are developing their space & vision currently located dowtown at both The Ground Floor and The Old Foundry.
If you'd like an email to their weekly events let me know.

Yes, Renata and I spoke after I sent you this message and she told me - and then I remembered reading it on your profile.

I will check out your website and see you at the potluck! And...it would be nice to have tea. My phone number is 360-319-9092.

I assume you have checked out the Groups tab to see who might be interested in the topic you described. Perhaps we could get together for tea sometime so I can get just a bit more clear about ideas. Check out Renata Kowalczyk's profile - I think she might be someone with a shared interest. Maybe the three of us for tea? A lovely place to meet is Adagios on Railroad and Champion.

Hi Dawn,If you are interested in sharing your knowledge & ideas of your "vision statement for a model to revitalize community and shift the ecomonic base", one idea you might consider is creating a blog on this TW site where interested people can dialogue. If you are new to the region, you might find there are already many individuals & organizations that are working towards a vision.
If you need any help navigating this TW site, you can ask for help. There is at least one TW group where specific questions are posted in a seperate discussion: http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/workgroup/forum/topics/using-this-website-computer
We are all volunteers here and take turns helping each other as we are able.
Under the "Group's' tab you might find a few groups that resonate with you, and there are also 'Events' to consider under the 'Events' tab, thought many of these are mailed out with David M. email newsletter 'Sustainable Bellingham Community Newsletter' that I would recommend you receive. One of the groups here that might interest you is the 'Community Living' group: http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/group/CommunityLiving

Where you able to attend the TW meeting Weds pm on our process of creating a new leadership team? We meet again in 2 weeks to continue the process and anyone who missed it can be caught up on what was discussed & proposed.
(Everything we all write on this TW ning site is transparent to all. The exception is when 'TW friends' send a message to each other, or just swap emails. Its useful to set up all your privacy options on your personal page that suit your preferences.)

Dawn, I appreciate the seeds of truth you planted with the peoples of Niue. May those that understand help lead the people towards restoration of their lands, and teaching their children the work of caring for the earth. I can imagine if the schools started an exchange program with some of the other islands that do have organic agriculture & edible forest gardens, that their eyes of understanding would be open.
I'll look forward to meeting you in person, and you're welcome to come visit me in one of the gardens I care for.

Welcome Dawn to the lands & peoples of the Salish Sea Watershed!
I'm a long time supporter of Ecology Action since the 70's!
I'd be interested in how your south pacific ecoproject is developing with the local government, and any regional projects you are working on.
I'm more familiar with the lands/people in the north pacific.

Hello Dawn - welcome to Transition Whatcom! I traveled through Willits on my way to my Transition training in San Francisco and stopped at a sweet little cafe for lunch! I don't remember the name of it, however. Just the warm memory.

What brought you up this way?

I hope you are planning on attending tomorrow night's meeting on creating the next leadership of Transition Whatcom (check the Events tab). It is likely to be a great time!
