Local currency on TV: from a sister Transition organization in DC - EcolocityDC

While I was in DC early this year, we launched a local currency called Potomac. Copy and paste the link below to watch on TV Larry Chang, the organizer of the Transition group there and another creator of a local currency in one of the poorest areas of DC - Anacostia.

The circulation of the Potomacs has some challanges. For example, the notes do not have serial numbers (unlike other printed local currencies) which makes them easy to duplicate and rather difficult to exchange with other local currencies. They are also pegged to the national currency since to obtain Potomacs one must exchange USD for it.

But the existance of this alternative in a metropolitan area and the media coverage (Larry was also on a radio not long ago) it is getting are bringing people's attention to a possibility of cooperative, community based economy.
