Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
Mostly an observer up till now, but I try to buy organic local produce as much as possible. I use the woods nearby a lot for recreation, mental soothing, wild foods and medicines. I have been eating weeds and maintaining my health with herbs and fungi for at least 25 years now.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
We have met some of the participants in Ferndale at the Wednesday night sustainable living meetings in Frank 'n' Steins pub. I feel that the current lifestyle we lead should be reversed to be closer to the pre-industrial society lifestyle, but with the increased knowledge and technology that we have now applied to make greater efficiencies and comfort.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
Knowledge of edible and medicinal mushrooms and some plants. I like to make art, and to revamp junk furniture. I am generally good at repairing mechanical things.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Fairhaven

I'd like to participate in some of the events, and meet people with ideas.

Chickens available -free range only please

Posted on April 16, 2010 at 1:56pm 0 Comments

A friend of mine is needing to find new homes for her flock of 53 chickens, including a few roosters. They are used to having several acres of grass and yard to run about in all day, so a similar free range home is much preferred. There are several breeds of chicken available so if you like blue eggs, or brown, then you can have them.
The flock is housed north of Bellingham in the Noon road area. Phone Deborah on (360) 398 2017 for more information.

If anyone is interested in seeing how some of these old crafts are done using little or no electricity, go to the BBC iplayer website and type in Mastercrafts in the search box. It will take you to a site where for up to a month you can view each program in the series. Unfortunately it is only available in the UK, fortunately it is possible to view it through a UK proxy. I have been figuring out if there is a way to download the programs to put on a dvd to loan out to TW folks, but no luck so… Continue

Hi Christine, There is a local native plants group that meets once a month in B'ham. They also have hikes, although I've been busy in garden. If you feel led to create an event and call all us wandering foragers together that would be great. There is also Reforesting Group on our TW site, and I thought that might interest you. Have a look under the TW Events page, for upcoming events...I'll be at next Sunday's potluck in the rural zone...the location is below the wooded area of Squalicum Mt.
(My comment section is set on a pre-approval setting cause I'm so far behind on emails).

Hi Christine! I'm often a wandering wild forager, though I the more I know the more I know how much more there is to learn! I think there are many of us that would like to increase our foraging knowledge of the wild edible & medicinal plants.
I've consider starting either a discussion in our Garden group, or creating another specialty group to share our knowledge & gather for walks together.
I look forward to meeting grazing in the gardens & forests someday!
