Hi Transition Ferndale Group
I will be hosting the Monday, April 11th meeting. From 6:30 til we've finished discussing our main agenda item: what we envision for our group's future - mission, structure, leadership, content - sort of a "spring cleaning/ sprucing up" for Transition Ferndale.
If you need directions call, 380-4211.
Hope to see you all and hear your input.
Love
Ro

Hi Everyone,

I have posted my Native Plant foray on the TW site scheduled for April 23rd at 1 pm, at either Terrell Creek or Padilla Bay Estuarine Reserve near Bayview.  Depends on what I see growing where and when.  Hope for morel mushrooms!

I picked a lovely peck of nettles at Padilla Bay on Sunday 3/13, and there were none growing at Terrell Creek yet.

Please RSVP to let me know if you are planning to go and meet us at the Ferndale Park & Ride prior to the trip.  If you don't RSVP I won't plan on you being there, and if things change I will notify those who have RSVP'd.

I could not figure out how to invite everyone with the actual event there, so I am posting this here.

Thanks,

Terese

Thanks for all the assistance, everyone...I'd seen this page, but didn't catch that I needed to "join" it to be a formal member.  Alas, me & Facebook...

Second Tuesday, Jan 11, we will be gathering at Peggy Borgen's house at 6:30 pm. David will lead a discussion about changes to his garden plans after reading a book called Gardening Under Cover. I will briefly revisit "long-term food storage" ideas since I am addressing this with renewed energy. Plenty of time for your topics too. Call Peggy for directions, 384-0861. A big thank you to Peggy.

Hello, It's January and time to get back in gear.

2nd Tuesday, Jan 11-We don't have any plans. Is anyone willing to host or do you have a topic of interest?

4th Tuesday- Laurita Whitford invites us to her place. She is a master gardener and has been researching seed saving. Come discuss the issues involved in saving vegetable seeds. And don't park across the street.

See you soon. Judith

Working with old rusty tools is a chore, but when you have appropriate tools in good condition, gardening is a lot more fun.

Larry Williams invites you to learn about the care and sharpening of tools on Saturday, January 22 from 10am until noon or so.

Bring hand tools, shovels, rakes, spades, and hoes.  You'll need the
handle and rivets or wedges that go with each tool.  Wear warm clothes
and possibly rain gear.  Bring eye and ear protection (ear plugs or protective ear muffs).

Space is limited so Larry can work with people individually to sharpen
their tools.  To RSVP and get directions, call Larry at 319-1024.  Some
of us may go out to lunch afterwards.

Call Larry now.  Don't miss this great opportunity.

Our last meeting was a truly great one.  Celt Schira led us in a wide-ranging gardening discussion answering all our questions about rotation, companions, cultivars,  and topped it off by giving us all kinds of seeds.  Celt has a non-profit through which she gives seed collections to beginning gardeners, low income, students, etc.  Let's support her by helping package seeds during the winter.

This Tuesday 12/14 we'll be at WECU for potluck at 6 and GOOD FOOD movie at 6:30.  All the details and movie links are here:

http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/events/transition-ferndale-movie-5

Lastly, if anyone wants to host a Fourth Tuesday gathering on 12/28, let me know.

See you Tuesday...Judith

Hi, all, We really enjoyed having you at our house last week. I love the good energy you all bring.

No meeting this Tuesday. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 30 at 6:30, a special evening with local gardener Celt Schira leading a discussion on "Planning your Garden". (note: Celt blogs on Transition Whatcom in Celt's Garden here: http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/profiles/blog/list?user=0a99ghcin...

Celt will kickstart our planning with ideas about her favorite varieties, seed sources, and gardening strategies. Now is the time to start thinking about next year's garden and ordering seeds before they are gone. Give your garden some thought and come share your ideas with us. This meeting will be at our house.

Some people had trouble finding our place in the dark. You may want to try it out in the daylight before hand. Directions are at the bottom of this message.

Other events coming up:
Dec 14 is a potluck and showing of "Good Food". Details here http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/events/transition-ferndale-movie-5
On a TBD Sat in Jan Larry will be talking about tools and their care. Bring tools for some on-the-spot sharpening.
Jan 25 will be a seed saving talk with Laurita.
Other ideas include hydroponics and rocket stoves.

If there are projects you are working on or need info about, step right up and organize a discussion for our group.

Directions to our house (at 3390 Hidden Pond Drive) from I-5 Ferndale Main Street exit. Go straight west on Main St which has a name change to Mt View about 4.5 miles from the highway. Turn right on North Star Rd. Go north past Thornton Rd to the next signed road, Hidden Pond Dr (about one mile ). Turn right on Hidden Pond Dr. The road turns right, then left. Turn LEFT at the next intersection which is our very long driveway. Go to the end and we are on the left. It's ok to park in the cul-de-sac or our driveway. If you need more info or a map, call my cell phone 360-306-0853.
