SUMMARY:Whatcom Town Hall: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
DESCRIPTION:Whatcom Town Hall: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, an eve
nt designed to foster dialogue about building a culturally responsive
 and community-informed business\n \nThe Community Food Co-op invites
you to join us in a very important discussion that will aid the Co-op
Board directors in defining issues and goals for further exploration a
nd action as we began a process to engage with the community in buildi
ng a socially responsible business. Voice YOUR opinion on how we can b
uild a business that is truly welcoming to all members of our communit
 y. No advance preparation needed. Your personal experience is all you
need to participate. Internally, we have been building our foundation
al knowledge with trainings on Racial Equity, Race & Privilege, and Co
lonialism. Now we are gearing up to incorporate this knowledge through
out our cooperative. This is the beginning of community-informed acti
on. This is the start of a public conversation, which at its root is i
n line with our cooperative model. If you feel uncertain or have ques
tions, please reach out. Even more importantly, come to the Town Hall.
We hope you can join us! Please share this invitation with your frie
nds, neighbors, and community.\nAbout the facilitator:\n \nDr. Breyan
Haizlip has been described as, “an educator that models bravery as
she brilliantly facilitates a culturally affirming environment that ch
allenges candid dialogue surrounding the most taboo issues in culture
in her presentations…” by the National Center for Multicultural Ed
ucation. Her repertoire of international and national presentations an
d publications in the areas of multicultural counseling research, cult
ural responsivity, gender and racial intersectionality, and social jus
tice advocacy as a conduit for educational reform, has guided her work
in community settings. When selecting the facilitator for the event,
Dr. Breyan Haizlip was selected to help guide us through this conversa
tion, specifically because she does not shy away from the courageous c
onversations we need to have in order to learn and inform ourselves.\n
