 at Restoration on Saturday Oct 31st at 9am with Nooksack Salmon Enhanc
 ement Association (NSEA) & volunteers.\n\nTools & gloves will be provi
 ded. Wear weather-appropriate clothing & wear sturdy shoes. Refreshmen
 ts provided by The Bagelry, the community Food Co-op, Erin Baker's Who
 lesome Baked Goods, Starbukcs Coffee, & Tony's Coffee & Teas.\nNetwork
  with your friends for carpooling or ride a bike & dress warm!\n\nWhat
 com Creek is 16.25 miles long and the Whatcom Creek Watersheds drains 
 over 36,278 acres of land.\n\nHelp remove non-native, invasive plant s
 pecies & plant new native trees & shrubs and spread mulch along the ba
 nks of a brand new site on Whatcom Creek. This section of the creek is
  located just downstream from Red Tail Reach behind Iowa St...Site is 
 accessible from the new trail entrance where Meador St. intersects wit
 h Lincoln St. under the I-5 overpass. Parking will be available – lo
 ok for signs, park, then check inat the blue NSEA tent.\n\nFacts from 
 the NSEA page:\n\nWater Quality: Whatcom Creek and its tributaries are
  listed on the Washington Department of Ecology's 303(d) list as impai
 red for temperature, Fecal Coliform, & dissolved oxygen levels.\nPollu
 tion: The main sources of pollution in the Whatcom Creek Watershed are
  attributed to human and animal waste and failing septic systems.\nMaj
 or Issues: Whatcom Creek flows 2.5 miles through Whatcom Falls Park, t
 he site of the 1999 pipeline explosion, which significantly changed co
 nditions along the creek. Although restoration projects have reduced t
 he damage done by the explosion and fire, complete recovery will take 
 time.\nFish and Wildlife: Whatcom Creek provides good habitat for Chin
 ook, coho, chum, steelhead and resident trout.\nInteresting Facts: The
 re is one dam in Whatcom Creek. The largest tributaries to Whatcom Cre
 ek are Lincoln Creek, Hannah Creek and Fever Creek.\nThe Whatcom Creek
  basin provides nearly 4 miles of accessible salmon habitat downstream
  of Lake Whatcom.\nWhatcom Creek is part of NSEA's Stream Stewards pro
