SUMMARY:Whatcom Conservation District Election
DESCRIPTION:WHATCOM CONSERVATION DISTRICT ELECTION: BALLOTS BY REQUEST
ONLY The WhatcomConservation District assists farmers in stewardship
of natural resources in Whatcom County. All voters in Whatcom County a
re qualified to vote (including all of us who live in the city). Ballo
ts will NOT be sent to voters automatically as is the case in other el
ections. The crucial thing to know about this election is that YOU had
to have requested your ballot BY MONDAY FEBRUARY 9.\nBallots will be
mailed February 13 and must be returned or postmarked by March 10 at 6
PM; information on the ballot MUST be exactly as it is on your voter
registration card. It's a small election with a potentially large loca
l impact. Your vote always counts most when the fewest people are voti
ng. This is a tiny election so your vote counts a lot.\nIf you did not
request an absentee ballot, you can vote in person on March 10th, 201
5 from 9am to 6pm at the Whatcom Conservation District office, 6975 Ha
nnegan Road, Lynden.\nTHE CANDIDATES: The two candidates in this elect
ion have very different viewpoints. Larry Helm is a board member of th
e Whatcom County Tea Party.Joy Monjure is a practical environmentalist
. She helped create the first Whatcom County Farm Map and Guide and th
e community Fall Harvest Dinner. She started the Farm to Schools progr
am, has been on the Everson City Council, is a farmer herself, and has
good personal connections to local farmers.\n\nFor more information v
