SUMMARY:Urban Earthworks: A Terra-Forming Work Party
DESCRIPTION:\nTerra Forming: Gently sculpting the earth according to P
ermaculture principles to maximize energy storage and yields while har
 monizing with the spirit of the land. \nJune 22nd & 23rd 10 AM- 4 PM P
rice: Donations will be accepted for Brian's time. Please RSVP if you
can.\nDo you have an issue with too much water on your property or not
enough at various times of the year? Come work and learn with us on a
n urban property to design and implement a series of small swales, rai
sed beds, dry wells, spillways, silt/nutrient traps and potential pond
. In a functional setting at an approachable scale.  \n \nThis han
ds on workshop will cover how to survey and design property to best ma
nage your water and nutrient resources on site throughout the year.
We will look at seasonal trends, soil types and strata, design strateg
ies, and performance functions.  This two day workshop will start wit
h understanding the goals and objectives for the project leading to th
e design process. Soil evaluation and surveying the key features where
earthwork will be conducted will be covered next. Using a small machi
ne we will execute the design. The second day we will follow up by han
d, fine-tuning the geo-sculpting and cover planting with a host of co
ver crops and plants that will accelerate the healing and long-term st
abilization and abundance of the system.\nWorkshop will be facilitated
by Brian Kerkvliet of Inspiration Farm. Brian is a Permaculture Desig
n Consultant and land steward. He has implemented numerous earthen w
ater and nutrient management systems on their 12 acre farm over the la
st 6 years. Project will be hosted by David and Angela MacLeod in the
Birchwood Neighborhood, Bellingham Washington.\n For more information
or to register, contact Angela MacLeod at 733-3541, or email angeluna
dot macleod at gmail dot com.\n\nCo-sponsored by Transition Whatcom an
