SUMMARY:Small Scale Paddock Pasturing System for Back Yard Chickens
DESCRIPTION:A mini workshop Saturday June 25th 10 am to noon\nChickens
love to eat fresh live greens and insects. In a permanent fenced in y
ard chickens will consume all the growing greens and most of the insec
ts within a month or so, and then their yard is just dirt. Chickens li
ving on the same ground are more at risk for sickness. Plus it’s jus
t boring for them.\nCome see how I’ve created a small scale system o
f moveable fences and alternating paddocks around our chicken coop. On
ce set up it’s not a lot of work to keep it maintained and to contin
ually give your chickens what they love – new fresh ground, greens a
nd insects. They will be healthier and happier.\nWe have 10 chickens a
t our half acre place in the Birchwood neighborhood within the city li
mits. We’ve been keeping chickens here for 6 years. I love observing
our chickens and learning what they like and need and I’ve enjoyed
adapting their living space to make them as happy and healthy as I can
.\nFor anyone just starting out and for those who already have a chick
en set up for back yard chicken keeping and small farms, the principle
s of this system can be applied.\n\nIn this mini workshop I’ll cover
:\nThe system I’ve created and how I set it up, including fencing wi
th multiple 'gates', moveable fences, sectioning a chicken yard and gr
owing cover crop alternations.\nThe benefits and advantages of using a
lternating paddocks  and moveable fencing over free range, chicken tr
actors, and permanent runs. Maintaining the integrity of your yard/gar
den and it’s many uses while giving your chickens fresh growing gree
ns and insects.\nThe challenges of this system:  the extra time it ta
kes, the room needed and the ‘puzzle‘ of setting it up in the begi
nning.\nWe’ll discuss how  to apply this system  to YOUR yard,  f
lock size and specific needs.\nQuestions? Call Angela at 733-3541\nRSV
P:  Call and let me know if you’d like to come to this event.\nFREE
(or small donations towards the chicken care would be gratefully acce
 pted)\n\nFor more information visit https://transitionwhatcom.ning.com
