SUMMARY:Slow Sand Water Filter discussion.
DESCRIPTION:Let's talk about Slow Sand Water Filters. I have basic kno
wledge of how they work and I am in process building my first one.\nTh
ey produce very clean water at about 10 gallons per day. The supply of
raw water must be free of sediment for best results.\nI will have pic
s of my system in progress and I would like very much to talk to you a
bout how they work.\nThese filters have an active \"Bio Layer\" of mic
roorganisms that grow in the top few inches of the sand in a 55 gallon
barrel. This bio layer must be kept alive and well fed for the filter
to work. That means that once you get the filter set up, raw water mu
st slowly trickle into the filter 24/7. After 3 weeks of operation the
water output should be very clean. You can't use any of the output wa
ter until the bio layer is established. The output water should be tes
ted before you start drinking it.\n\n\nFor more information visit http
