SUMMARY:Placemaking at the Food Bank Garden Workparty
DESCRIPTION:The Day-\nThree different aspects of Urban Improvement wil
 l frame the event.  Workshops throughout the day will outline these c
 oncepts and invite participants to contribute to the project.  Involv
 ement will range from painting in shapes to placing stones or planting
  plants.  When folks leave the site they will feel a sense of partici
 pating in a community-based project which has improved their city.\n 
 \n“Urban Art Workshop”-\n2-3 different murals as well as two sheds
  will be painted onsite.  A pre-drawn “Paint by Number” mural wil
 l let people contribute to a good looking final picture.  A “Fill i
 n the Blank” design will give space inside of a larger image for peo
 ple to contribute their own creations.\nInterface\nTarp/Canvas laid on
  ground.  Plywood sheets laid out with prior sketches and painting id
 eas drawn up already.   Participants can either fill in blank or con
 tribute their own design to the fill in the blank.\nTimeline\n9am-1pm
   2-3 people\n1pm-4pm   2-3 people\n“Growing Urban Biodiversity
 -\nTwo large beds will be planted with perennial shrubs, small trees
  and other plants.  Particpants will be able to plant plants into the
  constructed beds or help with mulching in the garden space.\nInterfac
 e\nPlants will be placed in a well-prepped site.  Mulch/compost/topso
 il will be added to the planting beds.  Participants will plant plant
 s into the beds and spread mulch around completed plantings.\nTimeline
 \n 9am-1pm   2-3 people\n 1pm-4pm   2-3 people\n \n“Crash Cou
 rse in Rubble Construction”-\nA 50-foot wall will be built along the
  planter beds.  Community members will place stones and the final wal
 l will stay in place for the extent of this project.  A local mason w
 ill also outline the history of stonework and the basics of rubble con
 struction.\n Interface\nVolunteers will be placing stones and buildin
 g beds along the southern wall of the garden site.  Participants will
  be taught a bit about setting stones and then able to set a few in th

 -3 people\n“Outreach Coordinators”\nThese volunteers will be cruis
 ing through the farmers market inviting market attendees to come see t
 he sites (Food Bank Garden, BUGS site).  They will also have contact
