SUMMARY:Crank it Down!
DESCRIPTION:Crank it Down, Bellingham!\n\nTransition Whatcom is joinin
g up with RE-Sources for Sustainable Communities for this event in Bel
lingham, which is joining thousands of other cities on October 24 for
an international day of climate action and we need your help.\n\nMeet
us at 1:00 in front of Boundary Bay Brewery for a group photo, an 80's
dance extravaganza and an 80's-themed party in the Boundary Bay Beer
Garden (1:30-4), with DJ Fundi and $3.50 pints.\n\nDancers needed for
 the 1pm breakout,\ne-mail katief@re-sources.org\n\nThis event is one o
f thousands around the world, calling for an aggressive carbon reducti
on plan to get the planet back to 350 ppm (parts per million). Since w
e haven't seen that number since the 1980's, Bellinghamsters are grabb
ing their leg warmers and hightops, ratting our bangs and puttin' on t
he blue eye shadow to make a point: We need real solutions to this rea
l problem.\n\nGroups from around the world are organizing similar crea
tive events as they participate in the most widespread day of environm
ental action in the planet's history. Every event will highlight the n
umber 350--and people will gather at some point for a big group photo
depicting that all important message. At 350.org, all the photos will
be assembled for a gigantic, global, visual petition.\n\nThe thousands
of events on October 24 will drive 350 and all that it represents int
o the human imagination, and change the negotiating environment as we
head towards the crucial UN Climate Negotiations in Copenhagen in Dece
mber of 2009. Copenhagen may well be the pivotal moment that determine
s whether or not we get the planet out of the climate crisis, and your
actions on October 24 will help our leaders realize we need a real so
lution that pays attention to the science.\n\nVisit our Facebook page
for more information HERE!\n\n\n\n\nAbout 350.org\n\n\n350.org is an i
nternational campaign dedicated to building a movement to unite the wo
rld around solutions to the climate crisis--the solutions that science
and justice demand.\n\nOur mission is to inspire the world to rise to
the challenge of the climate crisis-to create a new sense of urgency
and of possibility for our planet.\n\nOur focus is on the number 350--
as in parts per million, the level scientists have identified as the s
afe upper limit for CO2 in our atmosphere. But 350 is more than a numb
er--it's a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.\n\nTo tackle c
limate change we need to move quickly, and we need to act in unison-an
d 2009 will be an absolutely crucial year. This December, world leader
s will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to craft a new global treaty on cut
ting emissions. The problem is, the treaty currently on the table does
n't meet the severity of the climate crisis-it doesn't pass the 350 te
st.\n\nIn order to unite the public, media, and our political leaders
behind the 350 goal, we're harnessing the power of the internet to coo
rdinate a planetary day of action on October 24, 2009. We hope to have
actions at hundreds of iconic places around the world - from the Taj
Mahal to the Great Barrier Reef to your community - and clear message
to world leaders: the solutions to climate change must be equitable, t
hey must be grounded in science, and they must meet the scale of the c
risis.\n\nIf an international grassroots movement holds our leaders ac
countable to the latest climate science, we can start the global trans
formation we so desperately need.\n\nTo check out what's going on else
where or for more information, visit www.350.org\n\nFor more informati
