DESCRIPTION:We regret to announce that we are canceling the County Cou
 ncil Candidate forum on growth and the environment, scheduled for Augu
 st 1. Our goal with this event was to provide an opportunity for all o
 f the candidates to have an open dialogue about key growth and environ
 mental issues. Because we could not attract the majority of candidates
 , we have decided to cancel and attempt a reschedule.\nStay tuned for 
 more details.\n \nAttend the Growth and Environment forum to hear com
 ments and opinions from Whatcom County Council candidates regarding  
 important growth, land use and environmental issues facing Whatcom Cou
 nty.  By answering a series of questions from forum moderators with a
 udience input on topic selection, candidates will  discuss pivotal is
 sues in the upcoming elections, such as new industrial development, gr
 owth management, the proposed jail, Lake Whatcom, Critical Areas prote
 ction and shoreline protection.\nWe have invited every candidate to at
 tend and represent his or her views, and are hopeful for full particip
 ation from all eight candidates.\nOut of respect for the quasi-judicia
 l role that council members inhabit during major project land use perm
