SUMMARY:Bellingham Parks, Recreation and Open Space Update
DESCRIPTION:The public is invited to a meeting to discuss the update o
 f the Park, Recreation and Open Space Plan (PRO Plan), a six-year plan
  that analyzes the supply and demand for park and recreation services 
 and facilities within Bellingham city limits and the urban growth area
 .\nThe meeting is scheduled for 7 pm to 9 pm, Thursday, October 24,
  at the Bloedel Donovan Park Multi-Purpose Room, 2214 Electric Ave. Th
 is meeting is a follow up to the public workshop held in June and is a
 n opportunity to review the survey results and other input provided ov
 er the past year on priorities for parks and recreation in the coming 
 years.\nIn order to remain eligible for certain state grants, the City
  must update the PRO Plan every six years. It also becomes part of the
  City's Comprehensive Plan. The last PRO Plan update was completed in 
 2008. The Parks and Recreation Department began the process to update 
 the PRO Plan in early 2013 in order to have time for adequate public i
 nput, including review and public hearings by the Planning Commission 
 and City Council in time for completion in 2014.\nThis meeting is a cu
 lmination of several opportunities for public input on the PRO Plan. 
  A public input workshop was held on June 20, 2013, and telephone and 
 online surveys were completed in September 2013.  In addition, the Pa
 rks & Recreation Advisory Board worked on the PRO Plan every month at 
 their regular meetings in 2013.  There will be additional public hear
 ings before the Planning Commission and City Council beginning in Nove
