SUMMARY:A Presentation from Walter Haugen to Huxley College's Sustaina
 ble Agriculture Class
DESCRIPTION:Walter Haugen has been an environmentalist, community acti
vist and general all-around troublemaker for over 40 years. Currently,
he farms sustainably near Ferndale and also manages a food bank farm
in Lynden. He has developed the dual-track sustainable model as a way
to feed people in the post-peak oil world. Topics covered will be inpu
t/output analysis, human labor efficiency, and why we will need 20% of
the adult population working as fulltime farmers in order to survive
in the future. Walter Haugen, F.A. Farm, Ferndale, www.fafarm.org \"O
ur carbon footprint is small and our produce is tasty.\"   It's alway
s the old who lead us to the wars. It's always the young who fall. Now
look at all we've won With the saber and the gun. Tell me is it worth
it all?      - Phil Ochs I Ain't Marching Anymore The real patri
ots are those who stand up and hold governments accountable for their
crimes.      - Walter Haugen, peasant intellectual\n \nIn addit
ion to Walter's talk we will be touring the Outback Farm with Outback
Coordinator Nick Spring - a good opportunity to get in touch with stud
ent food security interests and activities at WWU.\n\nFor more informa
