Event Description

The Port and City of Bellingham are in the process of approving documents to develop the Bellingham Waterfront.
According to planning documents, the City and Port have spent approximately $52 million and will spend another $25 in the next million in the next 25 years for land acquisition, planning, design, environmental cleanups, infrastructure, parks and trails.
RE Sources is part of the BlueGreen Waterfront Coalition, which joins labor and environmental groups to make sure that the public money spent on this development is used wisely and benefits workers, the environment and our community at large.
We are urging City Council to make sure that planning documents include:
• Zoning that triggers the highest level of the entire site so it is safe for people to live, work and visit.
• Standards for living wage jobs with affordable healthcare, a focus on hiring local and a voice in the workplace.
• Shoreline restoration, habitat protection and a habitat plan to allow wildlife  to thrive.
• Alternative options other than a yacht marina for the wastewater lagoon.
• An incorporation of public input into the final documents.
Join us on Monday, August 5th to share your concerns with the Bellingham City Council, who will be holding a public hearing on the plan. For more on the waterfront redevelopment, click here.
