Event Description

Learn how to make your world more sustainable from the ground up through our series of garden-based classes and workshops.  The six-part series will cover a variety of sustainable gardening techniques and put those skills to practice with hands-on workshops in RE Sources’ new on-site community garden. 

Class Schedule:


1. Introduction to Permaculture: Saturday, March 26th, 9am – 1pm ($35). Understand the principles and ethics of permaculture and how it can inform your garden planning.

2. Introduction to Permaculture Design: Sunday, March 27th, 9am – 1pm ($35). Learn techniques to assess sites, develop design strategies, and execute effective site. plans.

3. Seed Starting, Garden Planning and Crop Rotation: Thurs, March 31st 6:30 – 8:30pm ($20). Get tips on Northwest timing and techniques, healthy plant succession and winter garden potential.

4. Edible Landscape Installation: Sat, April 9th 9am – 1pm ($35). Learn how to sheet mulch, build raised beds, and create a thriving food production garden.

5. Compost and Soil Health:Thurs, April 14th - 6:30 – 8:30pm ($20). Get tips on nurturing soil, organic matter, and how to transform your waste into useful compost.

6. Forest Gardening: Saturday, April 30th - 9am 3pm. Understand how to re-create the structure and function of natural ecosystems.

Classes are open to the public, all ages.  You can sign up for individual classes, or receive a discount when you enroll in the entire series. Enrollment fee assistance is available. Classes and workshops will be taught by Homestead Habitats and the Bellingham Urban Garden Syndicate (BUGS). Homestead Habitats is a Bellingham-based holistic landscaping contracting group. Their vision is to improve local food security and community self-sufficiency through transforming homes and properties into healthy modern homesteads. Bellingham Urban Garden Syndicate (BUGS)  is a support coalition of urban agriculturalists in the greater Bellingham area focused on promoting, sustaining, and advocating for urban agriculture in Bellingham through education, garden support, community action, and making local healthy food accessible.

Looks like a great series! Tell Hannah I'll help pass the word and hope more folks wanting to learn gardening will attend the next class Thurs March 31st!
