Event Description

Hootenanny to Benefit the Co-op’s Farm Fund

Do-si-do and swing your partner to fund local farms and celebrate Eat Local Month.

Bellingham, Washington | Aug. 12, 2016 —The fourth annual Hootenanny to Benefit the Co-op’s Farm Fund is right around the corner. Join the fun and support local farms! The Community Food Co-op is happy to co-sponsor this lively, fun community event with Sustainable Connections and to kick off Eat Local Month in grand fashion—a month dedicated to celebrating all the folks who work hard every day to provide us with local food. For info about other Eat Local Month events visit eatlocalfirst.org.

With the support of our enthusiastic community of local farm lovers, the Farm Fund continues to grow. Since 2000, the Co-op’s Farm Fund has distributed $245,000+ to more than 65 local farms and food and farming organizations.

Come on down, kick up your heels, and enjoy some rollicking live music, square dancing, photo booth fun, farmer recognition and awards, and Boundary Bay Brewery beer and local barbecue—all to benefit the Community Food Co-op’s Farm Fund. 100% of proceeds directly benefit sustainable, organic food and farming projects in Whatcom and Skagit counties.

“This fun and engaging event is not to be missed! This is our fourth year hosting the Hootenanny, and it just keeps getting better and better. What better way to honor our local farmers than with a good, old-fashioned Hootenanny that brings our community together to celebrate the bounty of the local harvest season. We’ll dance, eat, and raise a glass to acknowledge the contribution of the hardworking farm community. And while we’re having fun, we’ll also raise money to support the Farm Fund that helps farmers grow even more local, organic, and sustainable food for all of us,” said Karl Meyer, Community Food Co-op community outreach.
