Local seed-savers continue to support the free exchange of genetic resources for all peoples. We look forward to co-creating more seed swaps and create library-bank locations for our "Salish Seed Coop" to store & share heirloom open-pollinated seeds, reclaiming our knowledge to grow our own nourishment.

Our community seed loving & sharing spirit is abundant!  We had a great 6th annual seed swap, thanks to many folks who volunteered their time both before the swap with planning, and during the swap with set-up & clean-up.

"Care for the earth's thin layer of soil & the microorganism within.

Each garden-farm site is different....Everyone has an opinion.

There is more than one way to feed the soil life.

Add chemical-free organic matter to your compost and feed the soil!"  - Heather K

Soil Test Labs & Resources for Soil Nourishement - http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/profiles/blogs/soil-testing-resou...     “ Many garden-farmers are adding soil amendments in March & April, before planting..

I'll list some soil labs below that do testing.

At times it can be worth your time - energy  to obtain a soil test.

You can obtain a rough idea of how balanced/unbalanced your soil is in its acidity, macronutrients (N-P-K) and also in its trace elements.    The more deeply nourishing & balanced our soils are, the more nourishing our edibles are...”  continue reading at: http://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/profiles/blogs/soil-testing-resou...

Film: “Farm for the Futurehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixx1c3RSw_8

covers garden-farming & forest-farming without dependence on fossil fuels, and preserving the soil & biodiversity.  European prospective.   Worth considering for a future Real Food Film Festival, and a TW film at the Pickford.

May our community grow more garden-farmers who are reducing oil-based fuels in their farming methods.  May we support the increase of human power, and focus on ecological stability that results  from biodiversity on our wildlands & farmlands.
