Transition Whatcom

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to Transition Whatcom and am moving to the area this April. I'm actively looking for work the end of April/early May. I've been researching organizations and farms in the area and sending inquiries but figured I might put the word out here for ideas. Are there any insider spots where farms or organizations post jobs? I'm coming up to visit the area Monday & Tuesday, February 13th & 14th and trying to check as many places out as possible. If you know of any farms or organizations hiring for the Spring , please let me know.

Below is a little info about me:

Motivated and passionate about finding solutions to the environmental, economic, and social problems facing our world. Strong communication skills with the power to network, deal with various stakeholders, and manage projects. Can work both cooperatively and independently. Experience with organizing events & workshops, public outreach, teaching, fundraising, grant writing, and budget administration. Hands on skills in gardening, berries & fruit trees, compost, natural building, natural finishes, livestock care, and small appropriate technology systems. BS in Environmental Science with concentration in Appropriate Technology, Alternative Agriculture, and Community Organizing. I have a Permaculture Design Certificate and currently live and work on a 20 yr old established Permaculture homestead.

Thanks,

Andrea

The Whatcom Farmers Co-op often has notices from local farmers about what they are looking for or have to offer.  You might check out their bulletin boards.  You can find their stores on Meridian in Bellingham, in Lynden, Ferndale and Nooksack.  Another possibility will be to go to the Farmer's Market on Railroad Ave in B'ham on Saturdays (they haven't started yet this year, but soon).  I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for the info Virginia! I'll check out the boards next week when I am in town.

Dear Jennifer,

I am definitely interested. I will send you an email right now.

Thanks,

Andrea

Joe and Linda Murphy sent a note to our Weston Price group that they are looking for help on their farm. They mainly do poultry, layers and broilers, and some gardening. They have worked with Joel Salatin at Polyface farms in VA before moving back and starting their second farm last year. This is their website if you want to inquire there.

Shirley, much appreciated. I'll send them an inquiry right now. I'll have to check out the Weston Price group. Thanks- Andrea

Hi Andrea:

We are looking for someone with some farming experience and we have a non-profit (actually two)

Take a look at our sites. We are not quite as organized as we look! One of our sponsors is:

Lane,

The organization(s) look amazing. I would love to get involved, I am especially interested in the growing and storing of staple foods, but I will be living in Chuckanut Village with my boyfriend and don't think an island commute would be feasible. Thank yo so much for reaching out though! Would love to come out and visit your place sometime.

Thanks,

Drea
