Hello Ezra, well, I just found your response to my compost question from way back in July...guess summer and gardens took over for me and it just zipped by! My main questions are: do you turn your compost? and if so, how often? do you cover it in winter so it doesn't get real wet? and how high do you let it get? My compost is pretty high now and it does not seem to break down very quickly, not as I would expect it to, and it does not break down to crumbly dirt. So, anything you could offer would be helpful.

Hello Ezra, thanks for contacting me about a good compost. I use chicken manure in mine as well, and it works well. However, I am always looking for methods that may be more effective and efficient than what I am doing. So far the compost that is produced has not yielded as nice a material as I would like. It does not seem to break down to the lovely crumbly black dirt that I remember from composts of my childhood. So, any input you or others may have would be welcomed! Alys

I wouldn't recognize you either, Ezra - I think you were about 8 yrs old when I worked on your house! I was not at the Derrick talk and workshop although I was part of the planning group that put it together. The reason I was not attending was because my sister was dying that weekend and I was her health care director. I spent 5 days with her until she passed into the light on Sunday.

Make sure you introduce yourself to me tonight - I am looking forward to meeting the grown up you! Don't worry if you are a little late - although there will be an opening and a closing, we have 3 'presentation' ideas to rumble through. I am sure you could catch one or two of them :-).

I am not a facebook person either. I want a bumper sticker that says: "more facetime, less facebook". However, this site has some purpose - as does the FG site.

Hi Ezra - welcome! You likely don't remember me but I am the person who worked with your parents on the design of your family's home. I drew the plans. Great to see you here! I am a deep green thinking person, too. Are you familiar with Fertile Ground, too? www.fertileground1.ning.com Maybe you already know FG and that is how you learned about Transition Whatcom? Hope to see you at the PUFPD event on thursday evening. FG has some events you might be interested in as well.
