Rob Hopkins TED Talk: Transition to a World Without Oil

Rob Hopkins reminds us that the oil our world depends on is steadily running out. He proposes a unique solution to this problem -- the Transition response, where we prepare ourselves for life without oil and sacrifice our luxuries to build systems and communities that are completely independent of fossil fuels.

I tend to agree with Walter. Exaggeration is not our friend. Sales pitches should be left to people selling you things you do not need, sustainable still makes great sense to me and while it is fair to call for a plan that is ideal it should not be confused with on that is real. Aristotle said that in framing a Utopia assume what every you like but it is wise to avoid the impossible.

Tranistioning makes sense but there is some heavy lifting out there to do in the political arena and it will get easier as things come crashing down around our ears but real leadership needs to inspire with a vision now for a future that is coming at us like a locomotive. While a soft landing is imaginable it seems candidly unlikely.

Great overview of the movement! IF someone has 16 minutes to spend hearing about Transition, this is the best 16 minutes I've seen to date
