The Coal Hard Truth at Lincoln Theater in Mt. Vernon

July 7, 2011 from 7pm to 9pm
Learn "The Coal Hard Truth" about the terminal proposed for Cherry Point near Bellingham on Thursday, July 7th, beginning at 7 pm at the Lincoln Theater in Mount Vernon.   Diesel exhaust, coal dust, noise, traffic delays, and more carbon emissions are just some of the likely impacts if the Gateway Pacific Terminal gets the green light to go ahead with the project. If you think this is Bellingham's problem, think again. Twenty 1.5-mile-long trains every day for decades would travel through the…See More

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I am a core member of Transition Chuckanut and one of the facilitators of the Bow Little Market on Old 99 just south of the east end of Bow Hill Rd.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
As a mother I am helping to create a bubble of resiliency that goes beyond my property. Transition is a greate way of giving energy to those who are already working towards a new paradigm, while activating, networking neighbors so they may reorganize quickly once economic and environmental hardship rock people off the narrow ledge they cling to.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
The Bow Little Market has been an excellent way to engage a rural area and begin to recreate village life, community identity, and positive, practical relationships. I would be happy to share my experience. I have a beautiful, five year old terraced forest garden and a lot of experience in water catchment.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
I live in Alger, Washington.
Your Personal Website (if you have one)
http://transitioninaction.com/profile/SaraiStevens
Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?
I took the Transition Training in Bellingham.
Please note that you do not have to answer all of the above questions in order to join, and you can always come back later to edit your profile. If it's all too many questions for now, please provide a short answer below on why you'd like to join this site (or a summary of the above, if answered).
I want to network with folks who are already active in Whatcom.
