Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition?
I am a founder of Village Vancouver Transition Town Initiative just to your north. The Village has now over 2000 members and has patterned its growth on your hub, or mothership, model of encouraging local transition neighbourhoods within a larger area. Our "larger area" has also spilled beyond just city of Vancouver, and we are using walkable neighbourhoods as our local "transition villages."
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am eager to reduce not just my petrochemical and non-renewable resource use to zero (or less), but also my entire ecological footprint. I have two children, and they are themselves the right reason for doing this.
Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
I am a filmmaker and experienced Passivhaus-trained residential remodeler. I mainly work with colleges and universities to deliver multi-media educational resources over the web, but also produce programming for broadcast television. I believe in renovating and rebuilding in wood, especially reclaimed lumber, using existing structures and foundations maximally, while adapting them to different uses and fully carbon-neutral operations. This is not only possible, but also affordable. Sadly, many cities forbid such environmental consciousness.
In what neighborhood or part of the county do you reside?
Bellingham, WA

Where did you hear about Transition Whatcom and how did you find our community network website?
Transition Whatcom leaders attended a Transition Training Workshop in Vancouver two years ago, and I attended your Great Unleashing, marching with a Village Vancouver banner. We also use Ning, and feel we have to work together across all boundaries and borders to extend the reach of Transition. I am also a member of Transition Cascadia and Transition California.
Please note that you do not have to answer all of the above questions in order to join, and you can always come back later to edit your profile. If it's all too many questions for now, please provide a short answer below on why you'd like to join this site (or a summary of the above, if answered).
I thought I had joined earlier, and I mean to learn and help to teach how to organize communities for Transition. I have also been effectively evicted from Vancouver as punishment for my activism and have taken up residence in Bellingham.
