- How are you currently involved in the Transition?
- I'm partnering with a friend to create a beautiful vegetable garden this year. I'm just learned how to make a "hot compost pile." And, I've been letting my horses graze on the lawn instead of starting up the lawn mower!
- In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
- I have always been passionate about helping people return to our relationship with the earth, to live harmoniously, and sustainably in community. I am excited to become part of a community that shares this passion.
- Do you have particular interests, skills, talents or resources you would like to bring to Transition Whatcom?
- I have a private mental health counseling practice called InterPlay. We provide relationship counseling for youth and their parents and families with horses as their guides and learning partners. We help clients learn the communication and relationship skills necessary to navigate their lives and relationships with greater freedom and confidence. I also train horses, and teach horsemanship. I hope to help people develop relationships with horses as partners in farming and transportation.

- Hi Ginger, We used to live at Inspiration Farm. Now we have a home in the Birchwood neighborhood. We are getting a nice garden going and have a few hens and bunnies. I'm wanting to turn lawn into more vegetable garden and I'd like to get some manure to sheet mulch it. It will take a while to get enough manure from the hens and bunnies. So I'm wondering if you have any extra horse manure that we could have or buy or trade for. I'm concerned about getting manure that doesn't have the dread herbicide in it. So it matters what your horses have been eating as the herbicide will be in hay that is fed to horses and cows, then go through their systems un broken down into their manure. Do you know about this herbicide issue? Do you have manure that we could have?

Heather K said… - Hi Ginger! So glad you are hosting an event at your farm with horses! I've heard of your work before. I too have worked in the mental health field! I'm not sure if I'll be able to attend, but I do look forward to someday seeing the land & animals you care for! I have visited some of the Steiner-Biodynamic Communities in the east, and a few of them work with horses/mules in the field, and also work with individuals with disabilities....We need some animal/people/cart trails throughout county and a few into town!
