Honeybees + Mason Bees + Bumble Bees are awakening!

 Fruit blossoms needing pollination have begun to bloom!  Remember to Not mow your first bloom of dandilions, as they provide early food for  early emerging native bees, along with blooming mustards/brassicas. 

Want to learn more?  I'll be heading down to Burlington to pick up some Italian honeybees (Apis mellifera) in a week or so (4/15-4/20).  I also hope to find the some Hawaiin queen nucs & Carniolans.

Hello friends,

I have second-year grafted apple trees for sale, many varieties such as Dayton, Chehalis, and Liberty, on semi-dwarf, dwarf, and mini-dwarf rootstock. $10 each. Or, come out to Riverhaven and I will teach you how to graft and you can take home your own baby trees! Our grafting day is April 8th (see Event on this website) or schedule your own time.

Are you a gardener with questions about gardening? Do you enjoy learning by doing hands-on work along side someone who is knowledgeable rather than using a book?

Consider the C.I.A.: Citizen Involved Agriculture at Inspiration Farm. We are designing this project to give newish gardeners and farmers some hands-on experience working with a knowledgeable farmer - Brian Kerkvliet - at his farm just north of Bellingham. In addition to what you learn directly from working at the farm, there will be time to ask your specific gardening questions. And as crops become ready to harvest, participants will get a share of it.

There is no charge for participating in this project. But we would like a group of people who are enthusiastic and can commit to coming to most of the weekly work sessions from March through September. That's just one 2.5 hour work session per week. (It's possible to make special arrangements for those who are serious about participating but can't make all the weekly sessions.) For our farmer, it is best to have a group of motivated workers whom he can rely on to show up at the scheduled time and give some good energy to the farm.

Fairhaven is a neighborhood in the Southside of Bellingham.  Location of the plant sale is likely to be 11th St. and Mill Ave, near the Fairhaven Village Green.  I don't know if the actual date is confirmed.

Some Transition Snoqualmie Valley members might want to attend the Fairhaven plant sale in March and would like to know where Fairhaven is.  If we use our GPS have to have town.   Thanks, Maxine

Our annual winter 2012 (January Community Seed-Swap) is
in planning stages..  We are looking for a new place to hold the
swap, possibly either the Foundry or Majestic.  More info to come as
date & place secured.   (We expect that Terra Organica may hold their follow-up seed-swap in February again.)

Our annual Autumn farmer seed-swap/barter fair will take this year off, until a larger farm-site is identified.   Thus no autumn fair/swap November 5^th this  year. ;-(     (Lynden's River Haven's barn is under construction  & not available this year.  Past years we gathered at Inspiration Farm, but our numbers have outgrown Brian's farm).

The Okanagan Barter Fair is held in October; we encourage others to help co-create a small local community barter fair/swap.    You can let either Heather K,  Farmer Brian at Inspiration Farm, or the farmers at River Haven know if you'd like to join a planning team – or create your own & invite us to help ya out!
