Great idea but I'll be out of town. I'd love to do this.

Consider convening the transportation group which is seeking a Leader (David is out of starte; his father volunteered to carry the fire but then nothing came to pass) AND a project to help it coalesce. This project idea might do both.

Anyone out there willing to take this idea further by convening the sustainable transportation group?

We are developing some projects over on the 350.org work group here on the Transition Whatcom website. Our big project is a second year of the "Perennial Project," where we plant perennial fruit/nut trees and berry plants in school gardens. To make the project more sustainable, I said I would pose the idea that we members of the sustainable transportation group could transport the plants from a central location to the various schools using bike trailers.

So here is my question: Could we get 20 bikers with bike trailers to provide the transportation on Sunday October 10, 2010? I have a bike and trailer, so we only need to get commitments from 10 others? Do you have a bike and trailer you could commit to participating on that day? Know any friends you could talk into helping?

Hi,

My housemate has a bicycle I can use, but the gears aren't working so well and I'm wondering if one of you kind bicycle advocates could take a quick look at it to let me know what it would take to get it in good working order?

Chuck Waugh has volunteered to help lead our working group!

"As you know, David Waugh has been very busy and is now at Crater Lake NP doing trail work for the summer. His father Chuck has offered to step forward to help lead us. Turns out I (Rick) know Chuck; he was the structural engineer on a project A-1 Builders did decades ago; he's also a fellow MIT graduate! Although he's is busy until July 1 he will DOODLE us all soon so we can reconvene our working group very soon. Please attend the meeting and let's see if we can get this group on track to accomplish some much needed work. THANKS for stepping forward, CHUCK!"

Here are the details from Rick Nicholson with the WTA on the upcoming Board Meeting.

The July 15th Board meeting is at the same place as the public hearing (County Council Chambers). It starts at 8:00AM and the public comment period, if you’d like to address the Board, is the very first thing. It’s great you’re getting involved in Transition Whatcom. I’ve been to a couple of their events as well.

You can count me in Dawn. This is great opportunity for TW to collaborate with governmental agency. I would like to see/create more of those opportunities. Thank you for brining it to our attention!

I am new to Bellingham and Transition Whatcom. I was told about a public comment on proposed cuts to the WTA service, which I attended last night. Perhaps there were members of Transition Whatcom present, but I came in late to the meeting and wasn't aware of who might have been there.
In any event, I spoke and asked the WTA Board to consider enlisting the support of the community for brainstorming creative ideas to make this wonderful transportation option work for everyone. It seems like a great opportunity for this group to engage in a very tangible project to help move us away from fossil fuel consumption. I'm willing to help facilitate that dialogue. I look forward to hearing from any of you interested in pursuing this with me. There is a July 15 Board Meeting of the WTA that the public is welcome to attend. I will have to check on the exact time, but I believe it is in the morning.

Great article in the Herald today! Can somebody in the Transition Workgroup reach out to this guy? He is doing some awesome stuff with kids...TW should be helping promote!
