We agree that people and households that are financially secure are more resilient, and our community will be more resilient if its members are more financially secure.

Comment by Judith Culver on February 2, 2013 at 12:10pm I have a friend looking for a financial advisor/investment service. She is pretty sophisticated about finance but is not able to use the internet. She needs assistance with transactions and reporting. She's thinking maybe a fee-based advisor. Also someone who would understand her concerns about US currency and stock market. Anybody got an idea for her? Please contact me at judithculv@hotmail.com.
Does any of you know of a Financial Planner that is clued into Peak Oil and Transition that you can recommend? Thank you so much!

Comment by Molly Fogelsong on March 11, 2012 at 11:13am I am with a local non-profit that teaches financial literacy through assets based community development.. we also bank with local credit unions and feel strongly about keeping our money local.
Comment by David Marshak on February 1, 2012 at 8:14pm In 2011 the Transition Whatcom Personal Finance work group conducted a Move Your Money lobbying day and public event in April, and we brought to life the Whatcom Investing Network (http://whatcominvesting.org/).
We'd like to extend our Move Your Money campaign to local government and major nonprofit entities (i.e. City of Bellingham, Whatcom County, Whatcom Community Foundation, local religious institutions and nonprofits) and see if we can encourage these entities to "move our money" into local credit unions and banks.
We need more folks to join us if we hope to make a difference in this effort. If you'd like to help, please come to our next Personal Finance meeting: Sunday, February 12, 12:15—2:15 PM, Coop Connections building at the downtown Coop.

Comment by Patricia Herlevi on January 6, 2012 at 12:02pm I'm working on an article on eating healthy on food stamps. I'm seeking a person who has done this, lived on food stamps (SNAP) and shopped at farmers markets, the co-op, grown some of his/her own food, or bartered and traded to make up for what food stamps doesn't cover. Do you know anyone who fits this description?
I thought I found someone but this situation fell through.
Comment by Judith Culver on January 4, 2012 at 2:10pm Of course I wrote it wrong. Laurel is the cross street on Mason.
Comment by Judith Culver on January 4, 2012 at 2:09pm The Personal Finance workgroup meeting is at the home of a member. Mason intersects with Ellis where it changes to Samish Way. Laurel is the cross street on Maple. 920 is on the left as you go toward the Arboretum.
