We will be showing the documentary film "Why in the World Are They Spraying?" and I'll be discussing nutritional detox strategies. We are all undergoing massive biological assault from aircraft, yet most people don't realize it, and aren't doing anything to protect their health. We're being sprayed with aluminum, barium, strontium, arsenic, iron, zinc, and antibiotic resistant bacteria containing man made nanofibers that are causing Morgellon's disease. The heavy metals are causing a huge incidence of Alzheimers, cancer, mental illness and upper respiratory infections...

Cindi started the meeting with a great description of the Great Unleashing. Dr. Frank James will be giving a presentation, which should be very informative as we plan for the healthcare we will need in the future. Cynthia has made a poster/handout this group could handout at a table at the great unleashing and asked for feedback from the group.
Rick suggested we share our concerns about the first 24 hours after an emergency situation and then how to proceed after without access to our current resources. He showed us his emergency kit complete with an old sheet that could be used for many things. (stretcher, sling, bandage etc) There was lot of discussion about emergency medical kits and medical kits we could develop to be prepared when we face resource depletion and our current system fails us.
John spoke about the urgent need to reconnect with nature to try to prevent a total eco system collapse. He has been working on a book that will be coming out soon. He spoke of a new Marshall plan with an environmental focus.
We had a lot of discussion about security and what it might look like if people were desperate.
We will continue to work on what a medical supply emergency kit should have and how neighborhoods can work together to be ready.
I related the Peak Oil Task force report to the Whatcom County Council and how disappointing their response had been. Folks seem to feel governments were going to be less then helpful and we were really going to need to try to get our neighbors and friends involved. Hopefully we can have more luck the more local we get.
I am looking forward to hearing Dr. James at the Great Unleashing.
Purpose of meeting is to form a core group to pursue post peak oil health issues, especially to participate in the Great Unleashing and to draw in other health professionals.

Participants stated that we need to:

1. Treat the root cause or source of a problem, not treat symptoms.
2. Change diet to reduce chronic conditions and pain.
3. Reduce throwaway supplies. We must!!
4. Create a layered approach to health care. First, self-care, then neighborhood emergency, then specialists. Learn to do…

2. Change diet to reduce chronic conditions and pain.
3. Reduce throwaway supplies. We must!!
4. Create a layered approach to health care. First, self-care, then neighborhood emergency, then specialists. Learn to do it yourself and take responsibility for your own health. Be responsible even when you are in the health system.
5. Recognize that our health systems are already vulnerable and will continue to increase in risk due to budget cuts and reduced staff. It is a pattern we will recognize.
6. Accept death. We have an unhealthy idea about what we should get from this life.
7. Include dentistry and psychological health.
8. Use methods that are not dependent on technology, internet, cell phones.
9. Be prepared to care for yourself for at least 3 days; no help is coming.

We brainstormed ways to move forward and prioritized actions in three groups, #1 being the first and most urgent.

#1 Research and gather info, such as contents of WWII medical kit, wilderness first aid, transition initiatives addressing healthcare.
Find more interested people.
Connect with other groups, such as Sustainable Connections, Whatcom Alliance for Health Care, Interfaith, Transition Whatcom food group.
Movie screenings to raise awareness.
Reconnecting with nature, wildcrafting. (also ranked 2 and 3)
Emergency communications, such as ham radio. (also ranked 2 and 3)
Identify medical supplies to keep on hand at home.
Identify sources for supplies, reusable tools.
Re-educate the public concerning these issues.
List/map of resources/providers (include wildcrafters)
Be prepared for face-to-face communication rather than use computers, cell phones. Carry medical records.
Empower people with positive message: Take back your health.

#2 Re-skilling, such as “wilderness” first aid, medicinal herbs, nutrition, preventative medicine, CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).
Address mis-information being given to the public.
Let people know the urgency of this problem.
Connect with county health depts, governments.
Centralized stockpile of necessary medications. (also ranked 3)
Be a resource for neighborhoods/ Transition Initiatives; help neighborhoods identify medical people in the neighborhood, organize a neighborhood emergency location (also ranked 3).

#3 Infrastructure problems: change laws.
Library of health information, materials, and books.
End of life/death/burial.
Address emotional trauma of accepting and dealing with these issues. Healthy food for that healthy bodytag:transitionwhatcom.ning.com,2009-10-24:2723460:Topic:93872009-10-24T19:27:13.348ZDavid Culverhttp://transitionwhatcom.ning.com/profile/DavidGCulver
Greetings!
Today was a new beginning in the Culver household. Judith has taken a raw foods class lately and today we ate two raw foods meals. I'm working on the house and usually about 11 AM I stop to have a snack to stop the grumbling in my stomach.
Today Judith made a raw food smoothie with apple and collard greens. It was pretty good although next time we will leave out the lemon juice and add a date or two for sweetness.
Next we had a raw food burger at lunch, which was like a spread instead of a firm burger pattie. It consisted of celery, onion, cilantro, peppers, flax seed, and sunflower seed. It was really good.
We are basically vegetarians meaning that we never eat red meat and sometimes eat fish and every once and a while a little chicken. I love eating good food because I really love to eat.
The ingredients today were organic from the coop and next year they will be organic from our own garden.
I hope this will be a starting place for discussions of favorite foods, recipes, and hints for preparing those meals. Cheers, David
