Transition Whatcom

I found this link on the web and didn't want to lose it. It is from Feb. '08 and called the 'Puget Sound Food Project'. It looks like a 'mapping' of what is in place and what is needed for food security in the Puget Sound area. I was inspired by it.

I think it could be used as a model for this area - but perhaps this is being done already?! Big project! I would love to know if it is. It would be great to have this work displayed at the Great Unleashing event. I am sure there will be a working group started after the Great Unleashing. This is being posted as a resource for whomever joins that work group.

Perhaps others have resources to post that are relevant to mapping our needs for food security in Whatcom County?

Here is another that seems applicable to Food Security:

Means and Ways to Build a Sustainable Food System
by Jen Dalton

In order to build a meaningful and sustainable food system, we need resources, ideas, learned lessons and creativity. So, as a kick-off to 2010, I've compiled a list of some studies, documents, interesting projects, and other ideas I hope will inspire next steps in the evolution and transformation of our current food landscape.
The project is up and running, and it is for the region's buyers (mostly chefs and larger wholesalers) and sellers (mostly farmers or producers of value added products) of local food to be connected. It is called the Puget Sound Food Network. www.fsfn.org.
At our food groups 'potluck with a purpose" I think we forgot to mention 'food processing, preserving & butchering" as one of the food catagory needs for our region's food resilency, since the divisions communicated seemed to be done according to garden/farm acreage size....

Correction on website for the Puget Sound Food Network would be:
