Event Description

Whatcom Town Hall: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, an event designed to foster dialogue about building a culturally responsive and community-informed business

The Community Food Co-op invites you to join us in a very important discussion that will aid the Co-op Board directors in defining issues and goals for further exploration and action as we began a process to engage with the community in building a socially responsible business. Voice YOUR opinion on how we can build a business that is truly welcoming to all members of our community. No advance preparation needed. Your personal experience is all you need to participate.

Internally, we have been building our foundational knowledge with trainings on Racial Equity, Race & Privilege, and Colonialism. Now we are gearing up to incorporate this knowledge throughout our cooperative.
This is the beginning of community-informed action. This is the start of a public conversation, which at its root is in line with our cooperative model.

If you feel uncertain or have questions, please reach out. Even more importantly, come to the Town Hall.

We hope you can join us! Please share this invitation with your friends, neighbors, and community.

About the facilitator:

Dr. Breyan Haizlip has been described as, “an educator that models bravery as she brilliantly facilitates a culturally affirming environment that challenges candid dialogue surrounding the most taboo issues in culture in her presentations…” by the National Center for Multicultural Education. Her repertoire of international and national presentations and publications in the areas of multicultural counseling research, cultural responsivity, gender and racial intersectionality, and social justice advocacy as a conduit for educational reform, has guided her work in community settings. When selecting the facilitator for the event, Dr. Breyan Haizlip was selected to help guide us through this conversation, specifically because she does not shy away from the courageous conversations we need to have in order to learn and inform ourselves.
