In addition to being an accomplished glass artist and certified Permaculture Designer, Brian Kerkvliet has co-stewarded Inspiration Farm, a 12 acre homestead style farm located North of Bellingham, since 1995. Inspiration Farm is home to a diverse ecosystem of critters & plants that Incorporates permaculture, biodynamic beyond organic practices in relation to regenerative design for annual & perennial food webs, animal husbandry, integrated systems and land/water management. Brian has maintained a grass-based integrated farm that includes livestock, and lawns and paths with a scythe for the past three years without the need for a gas powered mower or weed eater. He has studied the finer points of scything with Alexander Vido, a master in scything techniques, who runs www.scytheworks.com. As a designer at Inspiration Farm he deals with maintaining a mixture of older orchard trees while planting a secession of food forest trees, shrubs, medicinal herbs, flowers, fiber, forage and fungi.
