Event Description

Join us for Lighting the Dark: Swapping, Dining, Learning, and Burning, Friday, February 5th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Chuckanut Transition will be hosting this winter gathering celebrating the participatory arts of swapping, dining, learning, and burning. 

From 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. there will be a Food and Seed Swap.  Bring preserved or fresh home-grown and/or home-processed food, seed, and other handmade items to swap.  From 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. there will be a potluck dinner.  From 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. there will be a photo slideshow and talk on Forgotten Pollinators.  Chuck Nafziger of Chuckanut Transition, will be sharing his beautiful bug photos in an informative exploration into the world of the forgotten pollinator.  Sue Mitchell of Friday Creek Habitat Stewards will be sharing her expertise on habitat restoration.  Come and learn with us about pollinators, their habitat, and how they are a cornerstone to a healthy and resilient watershed.  At 8:15 p.m., the evening will culminate with the lighting of a bee and flower fire sculptures.  Throughout the evening there will be other art on display, highlighting the creativity and resource we have right here in our own backyard.  Bring your musical instruments and help us fill the dark with celebration!

This is a free community event at the Alger Community Hall, 18735 Parkview Lane, Burlington, WA 98233.  Bring donations to contribute to the new Chuckanut Transition Community Fruit Press.

Chuckanut Transition, a group of folks building resilient community within the Samish Watershed, believes all hope lies in our ability to connect with place and with one another.  Essentially, by becoming indigenous to our watershed, we are creating lives that are more meaningful, healthy and joyful.  Please join us!
